He who distinguishes the true savor of his food can never be a glutton; he who does not cannot be otherwise.

Classroom silliness

7th grade likes to play a game I like to call "Fun with Word Roots". I introduce a Latin or Greek word root and its meaning, and then the students figure out which English words use that root. I gave them the root "pond" which means "to hang or weigh." I told them that "ponder" uses the root, because when one ponders something, he or she weighs it in his/her mind. Devin then offered this gem: "Ohh!! Ohh!! Ponderosa! That uses it! 'Cause you, like, hang around the buffet, and then you weigh your plate down with food."
Not quite, Devin. Not quite.

8th grade is creating art projects that revolve around the future. I told them to come up with symbols to represent what they want to be as an adult. I was walking around the room and stopped suddenly in front of a girl who had drawn a movie script and the comedy and tragedy masks as well as a needle and some pill bottles. The girl told me that she wants to be an actress and a nurse. I was quite relieved. For a minute, I thought that she was aspiring to be a cracked-out movie star.

This is how I feel today.

Playing: "Omaha"- Counting Crows
Reading: Traveling Light- Max Lucado. (Hey, everybody needs a little Christian inspiration now and then.)

Okay, Devin is apparently a comedy genius. I love that.

And big ups to Lindsay Lohan Jr. as well.
